Press Release: YAMAHA’S MALAN, FLEMING AND DE JAGER ARE 2010 A.M.U. CHAMPS!!!

The 2010 AMU (African Motorcycle Union) Motocross Cup of Nations was hosted this past weekend at the fantastic Dirt Bronco Motocross Track just outside Krugersdorp, where riders from Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and South Africa competed for the honour of riding for their countries and for the honour of holding the title of African Motocross Champion in their respective classes.

Ekerold Yamaha’s Matthew Malan, fresh off his campaign at the World Mini MX GP in France, proved his speed and consistency by finishing second, first and third in the three MX Lites (for 85cc two stroke and 150cc four stroke machines) heats, giving him sufficient total points to clinch the African MX Lites Championship, Whilst Red Yamaha’s Brendon Fleming backed up his season long dominance of the 125cc class in the South African National Championship, by going second, first and first in his three fifteen minute plus one lap moto’s to clinch the African 125cc Championship. Fellow Yamaha YZ125 rider Bradley Fenton backed up Fleming’s overall win by taking second overall with one win and two second places, ahead of Zimbabwean Jaydon Ashwell (KTM).

Red Yamaha’s Wesley De Jager clinched the African MX2 Championship by winning the first two 20 minute plus one lap heats and finishing in third in the last moto behind Sacha Naude (Yamaha) and Kerim Fitzgerald (KTM).

All in all, a fantastic days racing resulting in Yamaha riders taking three of the four senior class African Championships, proving that the range of Yamaha YZ motocrossers is the choice of championship winning riders!
